HURRICANE IRENE UPDATE: NYC calling for voluntary evacuation of low-lying areas

The Mayor has said that residents in Zone A are advised to leave their homes before the storm arrives and are strongly encouraged to stay with friends or family outside an evacuation zone. Evacuation Centers will be open Friday at 4 PM for residents who have no alternative shelter.

Affected neighborhood areas in Zone A include:
1 Brooklyn Bridge Park and all adjacent park land
DUMBO north of Plymouth Street
Vinegar Hill east of Navy St and north of Flushing Avenue

The closest evacuation shelter is at NY Technical College, 300 Jay Street @ Tillary Street

We are a volunteer Community Emergency Response Team for Brooklyn Community Board 2, including Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Fulton Mall, Boerum Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Fulton Ferry, and Clinton Hill. We encourage emergency preparedness and help first responders in the event of a crisis.
